The Kansas Hero's Scholarship Act (KSA 75-4364) establishes a waiver which provides and opportunity for eligible dependence and spouses of certain deceased or disabled military service members to attend and eligible public Kansas postsecondary educational institution for undergraduate coursework without payment of tuition and required fees.

of war to attend an eligible public Kansas postsecondary educational institution for undergraduate coursework without payment of tuition and required
fees. The student will be responsible for all other charges associated with the student’s academic program.
The EMERGE program provides tuition and fees paid up to 15 credit hours; up to a maximum rate not to exceed the maximum rate that would be charged by the state educational institutions for enrollment. Students have to be pursuing a Master's degree at a Kansas post secondary institution and must be a member of a Kansas Air/Army National Guard unit. A service obligation is required after receiving the assistance.
The Kansas Military Service Scholarship is available for the payment of tuition and fees at any of the six public universities, Washburn University, community colleges, and technical colleges for students who are a resident of Kansas and:

The Kansas Adult Learner Grant provides assistance for KS resident adult students aged 25 and older who are seeking a bachelor’s degree in specific fields of study. This is a service scholarship; accepting funds obligates the recipient to live and work in Kansas after graduating from their degree program.
Eligible fields of study include:
Students can enroll in full time or part time credit hours (no less than 6 credit hours). The grant can pay towards tuition, required fees, and books.
The grant is awarded on a first come, first served basis.
The Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance provides a percentage of tuition and fees paid; up to a maximum rate not to exceed the maximum rate that would be charged by the state educational institutions for enrollment. The percentage is determined by the number of eligible students and available appropriations. Students may be pursuing a certificate, diploma or degree program and must be an enlisted member of a Kansas Air/Army National Guard unit. Full-time enrollment not required. Students must have a GED or high school diploma to qualify for this assistance. The member must not already have obtained a bachelor’s degree. The National Guard Educational Assistance is only available for fall and spring semesters.
The Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship requires an obligation to practice as an LPN or RN in Kansas. If the student wishes, they can have a sponsor and receive more funding. An eligible sponsor means any adult care home, psychiatric hospital, medical care facility, home health agency, local health department or any state agency, which employs LPNs or RNs, licensed by the State of Kansas. The sponsor cannot be located in the following counties Butler, Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth, Reno, Riley, Saline, Sedgwick, Shawnee, or Wyandotte. The sponsor will provide employment upon licensure of the recipient. Priority is given to the sponsor is a mental health center or treatment facilities to be a sponsor. The obligation for the scholarship is to work for the sponsor for one year for each year of the scholarship support received.
Purple Heart Scholarship Program
A competitive program that awards scholarships to Purple Heart recipients and their spouses, children, and grandchildren each year. At least one applicant with military service will be awarded the Navy SEAL LT Michael Murphy Memorial Award.
To be eligible to apply for a Purple Heart Scholarship, applicants need to be a member of one of the following categories:
A Purple Heart recipient who is a Member of the MOPH, or
Samsung American Legion Scholarship
Scholarship applications are limited to students between their junior and senior years of high school who attend the current session of either an American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program and are a direct descendant - i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc. Stepchildren and legally adopted children are considered direct descendants of a wartime U.S. military veteran who served on active duty during at least one of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for American Legion membership.
Applicants who are direct descendants of Korean War Era Veterans will receive bonus points.
The American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship is needs-based scholarship designed to fulfill the financial gap remaining after all federal and state grants/scholarships and provides college funding to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or those who have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.
The American Legion Baseball Scholarship
The American Legion awards between $22,000 and $25,000 in scholarships to deserving baseball players each year. Each Department Baseball Committee may select a player from its department to receive this scholarship. The American Legion will award several scholarships each year depending on the number of applicants and interest earned from the trust fund.
Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund
The Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund is an umbrella that supports three separate scholarship opportunities for participants in American Legion Auxiliary programs. One is for American Legion Auxiliary Junior members, another for the Junior Members of the Year, and one is for participants in the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation program.
Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship
Three $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually per geographic division, for a total of 15 scholarships. These scholarships are for undergraduate study only at an accredited college or university, and may be used for tuition, books, fees, room, and board.
Continuing Education Scholarship
The Continuing Education Scholarship to assist members and their immediate family members who wish to further their education by pursing a college degree or career direction at a vocational/technical school.
*Qualifying member must have been a member of the VFW Auxiliary for one (1) year by the application submission deadline.

With 2,131 students receiving over $1,100,000 in scholarships this past year, the FORTY & EIGHT has granted in excess of $20,000,000 and graduated over 23,000 Registered Nurses since the inception of this program.
